9 Amusement Park Tips You Need to Know

By Pat Brill Before you throw your kids in the car and head off for a day at the amusement park, there are some things you need to consider. Few things can be more frustrating and disappointing than going to an amusement park ready to have a great time, only to end up having a miserable day instead. With these tips you can ensure that your family has a day to be remembered fondly for many years to come. 1. Check the Forecast. This seems obvious, but so often, with all the other planning that goes into a trip to an amusement park, people fail to check the weather forecast. Just because its sunny now doesnt mean it will be this evening. So tune into the weather forecast, and if the temperature is going to be blazing (or freezing!) or heavy thunderstorms are moving in, plan your amusement park trip for a different day. 2. Dress For Success. Forget about those oh-so-cute outfits and high fashion. Go for comfort and coolness. Some travel specialists suggest a bathing suit and flip-flops as the outfit of choice for an amusement park. You may want to add an old T-shirt and pair of shorts or a cover-up, especially for the children. 3. Lather Up. Many a great day at the amusement park has been spoiled by lack of SPF. Sunburn is the last thing you want for yourself or your kids, so slather on the sunscreen well and often, and relax. 4. Travel light. When you have children, theres a tendency to take every item you think they might possibly need — or even think about needing. Having to carry heavy bags, or bags of any kind for that matter, can ruin your day at the park. So pack lightly and dont worry if you leave some things behind. More than likely no one will notice because theyll be having such a great time. If you feel you must carry a bag, check it into a rented locker, so you wont be lugging it all over the park. 5. Set Expense Limits Before You Go. Temptation is heavy at amusement parks. Oh, the food, the games, the souvenirs! Make a budget and be sure everyone knows how much theyre allowed to spend. Knowing the limits beforehand will not only ensure that you dont overspend, it will also cut down on the begging and whining youll have to listen to all dayand thats always a good thing! 6. Go Early. Showing up early at an amusement park is the best way to beat the crowds and avoid long lines for rides and other activities. Have your tickets ready and youll be at the head of the line. 7. Plan Your Strategy. You want everyone in the family to be able to do the things they want to. For this to happen, youll have to do some pre-planning. Get a map of the amusement park in advance and find the best route that will give everyone a chance to accomplish at least part of what they want. No one should be left out, even you! 8. Conserve Your Energy. Dont try to do the most strenuous activities (such as wave pools) as soon as you get to the amusement park. Activities like these are very hard on little ones, and you dont want them to get overtired too quickly. So alternate more strenuous activities with less strenuous ones. Take frequent breaks to hydrate and rest, especially if you have children under the age of 12. 9. Make Sure Everyone Follows the Amusement Park Rules. Thrills and chills are part of the overall entertainment at an amusement park, but you want to be sure its the right kind of excitement. For instance, dont let a child who is too small get on a ride just because hes with Dad. Its too dangerous. Following the parks rules and regulations will keep everyone safe and thrilled in all the best ways. Wedding Toasts 101: the Basics & Tips

By Antoinette Boulay What would a wedding reception be without the traditional wedding toast? Its like having a wedding cake without the icing. The wedding toast is a profoundly moving gesture, as it conveys to the bride and groom the heartfelt wishes of everyone who attended the wedding. Sequence of the Toasts The wedding toast is usually given first by the best man, then the father, the groom and the bride, and then followed by those who would like to give a toast. Versions may vary, however. Other traditional sequences of wedding toasts also follow the best man as the first one to give the toast, followed by the groom who says a few words to his bride, parents, family, and members of the wedding party. After which, the groom is then followed by other people such as family members or friends who also want to give a toast, and then lastly, the father of the bride who thanks everyone for attending the wedding. On the other hand, a nontraditional manner of the sequence of wedding toasts starts off with the emcee toasting the bride and groom. This is followed by the groom saying a few words to the guests and his bride, followed by the bride giving a little speech to her parents and in-laws, and finally, the father of the bride thanking everyone who shared this special day with them. The Actual Toast Ever since a monk named Dom Perignon invented champagne, it has since become the number one drink during wedding toasts. So before performing the wedding toast, make sure that your own glass as well as the glasses of other people (most especially the bride and grooms) are also filled with drink. Stand next to the bride and groom when giving your toast, and using a spoon, tap your own glass in order to get peoples attention. Raise your glass using your right hand held straight from your shoulder, and then you can begin the wedding toast. Wedding Toast Tips Preparing the Speech: Practice! Giving a wedding toast, albeit a short one, in front of so many people can be quite a nerve-wracking experience. However, it doesnt really have to be, not as long as you come prepared. Write your speech down so you would know exactly what to say. Let it come straight from your heart, so that you would be able to convey the sentiments you want to impart to the couple you are toasting. You can also try showing it to someone for comment so that you can get feedback in improving on your speech. Remember to keep on practicing until you feel confident and comfortable enough to deliver it in front of a crowd. K.I.S.S. Keep your wedding toast brief and straight to the point, since you wouldnt want to divert attention away from the happy couple. Nobody wants to listen to an extremely long speech, so remember this wordK.I.S.S. (Keep It Short and Simple). A good measurement of a wedding toast is around 3 minutes. Giving the Speech In giving the wedding toast, speak loudly and clearly especially if you dont have a microphone, so that people would understand what youre going to say. Talking loudly gives you a certain presence, and now that you have the audiences undivided attention, its important to hold it by not mumbling your words. So remember to talk slowly, because this is not a race to get you to finish your speech as fast as you can. Remember, people actually want to hear what you have to say. Make Eye Contact & Smile! Having your speech or cue cards printed out is indeed a great help in giving a wedding toast, but remember not to read it straight out from beginning to end. Make eye contact with the audience, so that they would feel that you really are speaking to them. Oh yeah, and dont forget the most important detail of all: Smile! This is a joyous event, and your smile should actually say so! Visit http://www.aragia.com for tips on etiquette for wedding toasts and maid of honor speeches. Exploring the Mystery of Aromatherapy Through Biotechnology

By Nur Syahid Aromatherapy originated in Ancient Egypt. About a hundred years ago, a pharmacist from France used an innovative method which led to a breakthrough in aromatherapy techniques. In recent years, under the strong promotion by Sathelyne Group, BelAir aromatherapy came into being to benefit many consumers. For centuries, people have experienced and have come to recognise that essential oils have many benefits. Essential oils can help to combat bacteria and other diseases, repel mosquitoes, prevent tooth decay, fight oxidisation, inflammation and even enhance the immune system, calm nerves, etc. But with so many types of essential oils around, which essential oils will benefit you? Which are the safest? These are questions that researchers are still unable to answer exactly. Since 2002 when BelAir set up our factory in France, there has been interest in testing the safety and effectiveness of our essential oils. With these concerns in mind, Bel’Air worked closely with professor Tsai from Taiwan National Yang Ming University in setting up our very own BelAir Bio-tech Research Centre. Professor Tsai Ying Chieh is head of Taiwan National Yang Ming Biotechnology Department and head of Taiwan National Yang Ming University Medical Science Department. He expressed that his interest in aromatherapy research is enhanced by the fact that research and academic publications in this field are scarce. The BelAir Bio-tech Research Centre hopes to strengthen the foundation of botanic essential oil research and further the investigation of essential oils and their various properties, effects and benefits. Professor Tsai also hopes to share knowledge with international institutions and publish academic papers. At the same time, he aims to educate the public on aromatherapy. The Effects of Essential Oils on Micro-organisms Present in the Air Between August 2000 and September 2002, BelAir Bio-tech Research Centre carried out a research program to determine whether Green tea essential oil, Ginseng essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil and Lavender essential oil have an influence on the amount of micro-organism (mold, yeast, fungus, bacteria) in the air. The researchers conducted tests on Green Tea essential oil, Ginseng essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil and Lavender essential oil. They burned these 4 types of essential oils in a sealed room, and recorded readings at different time intervals. Readings were taken at the beginning of experiment (0 min), during the experiment (30, 50, 70, 90 mins) and after the experiment (30, 60, 90,120,150,180,210 mins). The experiment was repeated several times based on a sample of 500 litres of air. The experiment results proved that: Green Tea has 90% effectiveness in killing bacteria; and 61% effectiveness in killing fungus. Ginseng has 90% effectiveness in killing bacteria; and 62% effectiveness in killing fungus. Eucalyptus has 52% and 48% effectiveness respectively, as pertaining to the items above. Lavender has 66% and 71% effectiveness respectively, as pertaining to the items above. Professor Tsai expressed excitement and interest in such results, because the experiment proved that Sathelyne BelAirs aromatherapy products indeed could combat micro-organism in the air, thus purifying the air. He also said that although the effectiveness figures for fungus seem low, but that is desirable because this would mean that it would not be harmful to the body. After obtaining such positive and encouraging results, BelAir has worked even harder to carry out the 2nd experiment. This program made detailed analysis and records of the chemical compositions of these 5 essential oils, and tests were done to determine their chemical and biological safety. Professor Tsai carefully selected Ginseng, Green Tea, Green Bamboo, Lotus and Eucalyptus as the 5 essential oils for the experiment. The reason for such a selection was because the 1st four essential oils are plants from the East, of which not enough researches had been carried out in the West. The selection of Eucalyptus was to act as a test reference for the other 4. Chemical and Biological Safety Experiment The 2nd experiment went through the following steps: Using GC-MS to analyse the chemical composition of these 5 essential oils. Based on their individual chemical compositions, analysis was done to determine the safety for use of essential oils. Using GC_MS to determine the after effects of these essential oils, whether any by-products or toxins were produced in the combustion process. Using Ames test to test the before and after changes of these essential oils. Using skin cells, fat cells and HepG2cancer cells to determine essential oils effects. Find out what effects these essential oils have in combating bacteria and killing micro-organism such as mold, yeast and fungus (MIC). The 2nd experiment results proved that these essential oils have compositions that are mild, low in toxins, do not irritate skin and have low light-sensitivity. The Ames test also proved that these essential oils do no go through major changes before and after the combustion process. What is more encouraging is that before the test, these essential oils already contained beneficial compositions, but after the test, these beneficial compositions diffused into the air and these are what the body needs exactly. Moreover, the body does not easily absorb these compositions in our daily activities. These experiments carried out by BelAir and Yang Ming University have achieved positive results, and we hope that in future, there will be more of such experiments to make the benefits known to consumers. The Aims of Bio-technology in the Medical Applications of Aromatherapy 1. To determine the plant essences and their scientific applications, their methods of production and their relevance for health therapy and health maintenance. 2. To establish the concepts and the operational models. 3. To bring aromatherapy into the realm of medical treatments. 4. To employ modern methods of making new medicinal products in setting up aromatherapy processes, so as to develop aromatic medical science. Target Marketing for Service Professionals

By Jennifer Woodard Lets face it. Marketing can be expensive. It can be a wasted expense when we dont take the time to figure out exactly who our market is and the best way to reach that market. When asking service professionals who their target markets are, many tend to think that everyone is their target. This is just not the case. The fastest way to waste your money is to think that everyone is a member of your target market. Understanding who your target market is a process that can be broken down into many small but important steps. You first must know exactly what services you have to offer. Make sure that the selection of services you offer is small enough to have a target, but large enough to hit the bulls-eye. So how do you begin. Lets break this process down with an example. Christine is a freelance copywriter and marketing consultant. She decided to offer a full range of copywriting services and market planning. She has thought about the industries she has experience in, knowledge of or interest in learning about. Christine decides to target financial planners and financial service providers. Christine breaks down the process into the following four steps. Step 1 - Reading trade magazines and association websites to find out what problems the industry face when trying to reach potential customers. She also calls local financial service firms to find out what problems they face and how they currently market to potential customers. Step 2 - Christine understands what is the best way to reach and sell to her target markets is to know how their industry and profession operate. Through research she finds out how her potential clients market to their potential clients. Once she has a full understanding of what problems her potential customers are facing, she can create marketing material to address their needs and gain credibility by showing she knows and understands the problems they are facing. Don’t try selling your services to them, sell solutions to their needs and how your services can help them solve their current and future problems. When you are creating your materials keep in mind that businesses want to either: Increase customers Keep customers Create customer loyalty Obtain customer referrals or all of the above. When you target your market, tell how you can help them gain customers, increase loyalty, retain customers or obtain referrals. Know up front what services you offer that will provide them the solutions to these problems and prove to them how you know how the services will help them. Step 3 - Once you have figured out what your markets needs are and how to reach this market. Create a marketing plan of attack for your business. Show your targets how investing in your services in an investment in their business, and how a long term investment in your service will be even more beneficial for them. Make sure that you are prepared for objections that they may have. If you are doing a direct mail piece, try to address those objects in your mailing. If you are cold calling, be prepared to address those objections on the phone. The more you know your business the better they will trust that you will understand theirs. Christine has decided that she will begin with activities that will put her in touch with potential customers right away. She decided to come up with an immediate plan of attack. A. Create a database of prospects B. Create a cold calling script C. Create direct mail follow-up materials (Postcards, newsletters, etc.) Christine has also created a long-term plan of attack. A. Writing articles for target markets trade publications B. Giving marketing seminars C. Creating a website for prospects to obtain information on her services D. Providing free useful information that can be downloaded on her website Step 4 - Create a twelve-month plan and show how you will market to your targets and how you will track the success of your marketing activities. Christine has decided to create a twelve-month schedule outlining activities to undertake for each month. She decides what the goals are for each activity and what will determine if the activity was successful. One of her goals is to create a marketing seminar with the goal of 60 people attending the seminar. She then decides the goal will be successful if at least 48 people attend the seminar. Her long term goal is to turn at a quarter of the attendees into clients. Once you have created your marketing plan, make sure that you work that plan to success. Many people try not to sell to hard, by not contacting a potential client afraid to scare them off or upset them. But think about it, Tide isnt worried about contacting you too often, when they run their commercial 60 times a day for you to see. When you want detergent, they want you to think of Tide. You should feel the same way. When your potential market is looking for your services, you want your service to come to mind first. For instance, Christine could try a postcard mailing. She has determined that there are four services her prospects could use to help their improve business. She doesnt send a post card once a month, she sends one every 10 days to two weeks, pointing out how one of her services could help their business. She uses one postcard to tell how newsletters can help increase customer loyalty and referrals, and provided proof by using an example of how a client used newsletters to increase customer loyalty, referrals and brand awareness. Keep you name in front of your prospects, your services as the solution and they will come looking for you in their time of need. Emotional Eating and Weight Loss: What Do You Really Need?

By Carol Solomon You can lose weight just by eating when you are hungry and stopping when the hunger signals go away. If we all ate ONLY when we were hungry, then no one would have any issue with food and weight. For most people, it’s not that simple. How often are you letting hunger be the guide to your eating? And how many of your urges to eat are driven by physiological hunger? When we reach for food, it often has nothing to do with physiological hunger. Many people have lost the ability to feel their body’s hunger signals entirely. What’s hunger got to do with it? Eating when hungry should be the simplest and most natural thing in the world. But it’s not. Next time you have an urge to eat, ask yourself? Am I hungry? If yes, great! Hunger is good. If no, what ARE you hungry for? What do you need? Do you need energy, a lift, a boost in your day to “get through” what you need to do? Do you need to calm down? Most people live with a certain amount of stress and anxiety. It can be easily triggered. Your child acts out in school, and you worry about their future and whether you are a good enough parent. Or you have to make an important presentation at work and you are scared that you won’t perform well. You feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of items on your to-do list and the anxious reality that you will never catch up. You need to know that you can perform well, even under stressful circumstances. These are all needs they are just not FOOD needs. Yes food can give you temporary comfort. The problem comes when you start to experience the cost of that action. You may feel miserable and beat yourself up. Worst of all, you are caught in the same vicious cycle . . . . repeating the same pattern over and over again. Whatever you don’t want to face will control you. If you don’t like what you are doing, then you need to replace it with a different habit. So, when you find yourself reaching for food when you aren’t hungry, simply ask yourself am I hungry? If no . . . what do I need? Are you exhausted, and you need to rest . . . but you THINK you have to keep going? A lot of overeating occurs out of exhaustion (“I’m tired and I just want to eat”). Here’s another great question: What is the kindest thing I can do for myself right now? Then, go do it. Eating is far more enjoyable when you ARE hungry. So challenge yourself to wait for the true hunger and get your other needs met more directly. You’ll feel a LOT better about yourself. How To Choose Water Garden Plants

By Brett Fogle So. The water garden bug has bitten. Youve dug and leveled and sweated and said words you hope that no one else has heard. Now its time for the fun part picking out your water garden plants! Plant varieties within these four categories are what you need to eyeball: deep-water, marginals, oxygenators, and floaters. (If you think these words are big and weird, just thank your stars were not talking medicine.) After youve diligently planted your babies in plastic tubs, pans, or clay pots, packing the fertilizer- and chemical-free soil down tightly, load the container down with pea gravel to keep the soil from floating away. (Dont ask why this works, but it does.) Plunk your prize into the water at the appropriate depth (Youll read about that in just a minute, so hang on to your hat.) and youre on your way! Plant-dunking should be done during the growing season. Wait four or five weeks for the water plants to do their thing before you add your fish. If you just cant hold your horses, er, your fish, for that long, you can jump the gun a couple of weeks, but the idea is to let the plants first get established. When picking your plants, youll no doubt be wowed by water lilies of the tropical persuasion. These aquatic wonders lord it over their hardier cousins with knock-out fragrance, big blooms day or night depending on the variety and a habit of blooming their little hearts out nearly every day during the growing season. They love their warmth, though, so unless you live in a year-round, warm-weather climate (in which case, you are used to being hated and has absolutely nothing to do with this article), be prepared to hasten them into a greenhouse or at least muster up enough moolah to buy them some grow lights to tough it out through the winter. They will definitely bite the dust at freezing temperatures, but give them night-time temps of at least 65F and daytime temps of 75F or warmer, and your love affair with tropicals will only grow that much more torrid. Hardy water lilies, while not the showboaters that tropicals are, are . . . well, hardier. Their big advantage is that they can stay in the water year round unless it freezes so deeply the rootstock is affected. And being the tough guys they are, you can plant these puppies deeper than the tropicals, some living it up in depths of 8 to 10 feet. Both hardy and tropical water lilies are real sun worshippers. At least 5 to 10 hours a day is what it takes, along with regular fertilization, to keep these plant pals happy. Everybody and their brother with a water garden wants a lotus plant. (Sisters, too, no doubt.) These water-lily relatives come in hardy and not-so-hardy strains, so make sure you know what youre buying. Much bigger than water lilies, lotus have huge, famously splendid blooms that not only will knock your socks off, but make you forget you have feet altogether. Their leaves and seed pods are so breathtaking, theyre a favorite in costly cut-flower arrangements. Big, bold, and beautiful, with water-depth needs of 2-3 feet, these shouters are really better off in big ponds that get plenty of sun. Marginals (sometimes called bog plants by those less high-falutin) are grass-like plants that strut their stuff in shallow areas no deeper than 6 that border the water garden. They also do well in mud. Cattail, bamboo, rush, papyrus, and many other plants fall into the family of marginals and grow best with a minimum of at least three hours of jolly old Sol. Some plants are there but not seen, working stoically under water and without fanfare to fight algae, oxygenate the water, and provide food for fish. (In lieu of these plants, if your pond is small, you can fake it fairly adequately with an aquarium pump.) Easy on the wallet, varieties of these plants can be bought in bunches and like their soil sandy and/or gravelly. Like hardy water lilies, they, too, will warrior it through the winter. Water hyacinths have become a recent rage, especially for the lazy among us. No soil is required for these beauties. Toss them in the water and theyre planted. A water hyacinth aint just another pretty face, though; these plants do their part in the war against algae and blanket weeds by keeping sunlight scarce on the waters surface. But one note of caution: This plant may take over the world if allowed. Its invasive as all get out, so keep it under control or you (and your neighbors) may wish youd never laid eyes on it. A water garden isn’t a garden without plants. Take your time, know your climate, and choose wisely. Your rewards will be great in return. ************************************************** Brett Fogle is the owner of MacArthur Water Gardens and several other pond-related websites including MacArthurWatergardens.com, and Pond-Filters-Online.com. Pope Benedict XVI Is Confused and Challenges God

By Shockley Au [Benedict] asked God why he remained silent during the “unprecedented mass crimes” of the Holocaust…’Why, Lord, did you remain silent?’ Benedict did not refer to collective guilt of the German people…He also did not mention the controversy over the wartime role of Pope Pius XII… [Benedict] did not mention his own personal experiences during the war. Benedict was enrolled in the Hitler Youth as a teenager…and then was drafted into the German army in the last months of the war. (Source: Yahoo! News) The first part is interesting… the Pope challenges God, asking him why he remained silent while he and his Nazi friends murdered/tortured some of the 6 million Jews who died during the Holocaust, something he refers to as “unprecedented mass crimes”. Unprecedented thanks to all of the individual contributions made from each and every Nazi - including Pope Benedict XVI. Note that Benedict avoids mentioning any of the issues above. At least politicians need to address issues to the public, seeing as they are (in democratic societies) voted into office by the public. Doesn’t this suggest that the Pope doesn’t need to be as responsible or accountable as a President or other head of state? Not a very good setup. Perhaps it’s time for some more responsibility and accountability in the Catholic church. Perhaps it’s time for some more responsibility and accountability in the Catholic church.
